The Azienda Agricola Spadafora is a farm established by don Pietro, Prince of Spadafora. The origins of this aristocratic family can be traced back to the XIII century. Ever since 1250, its members have owned large estates and held titles of rank. The estate was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1968, but don Pietro engaged in the work of reconstruction and restructuring, revaluing local vine species and introducing new varieties for the production of quality wines. The present owner is Francesco Spadafora, son of don Pietro, who attends to grape-growing in his vineyards extending over about 100 hectares.

'… and then, through the vineyards, I reach the houses. I stop and stare at the palm trees, at the murals and the fountain. I look in wonder at the cypress trees and I envy them because they have enjoyed all this so long before me. This is what it means to stay at Virzì.'

Early one morning, I asked one of the old men, 'What was it like before?'

'… it's always been like this, but it's only when you live here that you can appreciate it; only when you wake up here in the morning that you can feel the energy which has made this place so magical'.
Virzì is here for you.

Here an example of type of apartments you can reserve:

'Casa gialla' (Yellow House) has colours of terra cotta and white with accents of blue. The ceilings, finished in wood, are fully insulated. The beautiful view from the double bedroom can be better appreciated from the slightly raised bed opposite the window. Outside the house there is a table and deck-chair area.

'Casa Azzurra' (Blue House), is painted in summer colours: white walls and two tones of blue for the doors and furniture give the finishing touches of colour and brightness. In the adjoining room, there are patio doors opposite the queen-size bed. These lead down some outside steps, to an area with a little table and a deck chair. Heating is provided by a wood-burning stove.

The house 'Sole/Luna' forms part of the complex around the winery, like all the other houses. The insulated ceiling, as well as the furniture, is made out of wood. The kitchen has a cooktop and is equipped with oven and fridge. It has several worktops to make your actions more comfortable.
The bathroom is equipped with a shower. In the sitting-room there is a cast iron wood-burning stove, a sofa bed, a table for four people, and some cupboards for household linens. The bedroom has an air-conditioner, a double bed and a wardrobe; it opens onto a brick veranda with sofas, cushions and a glass table to eat outside.

In the small restaurant our guests will be able to taste the delicious local cooking, and with the special touch of Francesco enjoy just the right wine to go with it. The tasty dishes that you'll find at the table are made with fresh vegetable picked from the yard next to the restaurant, or with fish coming from the nearby fishing city of Mazzara del Vallo.

We suggest a few places that are ideal for day trips, since they are very easy to reach from Virzì:

  • the temples of Segesta and Selinunte
  • the Zingaro natural park
  • the beaches and tonnare of Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo
  • Marsala and Erice
